2008 ICBA Queen - Mary Kate Mardesen

Mary Kate Mardesen is the 14 year old daughter of Heath and Shelli Mardesen from Oxford. Mary Kate along with her parents and younger brother Tim run a small Charolais herd and actively participate in the state and national level.

Mary Kate is a member of the AIJCA and received her Bronze and Silver Merit Awards when she attended the Junior National Show and Conference in Kansas. As a member of the Iowa Junior Charolais Association, Mary Kate has held the offices of Vice-President, Secretary and Photographer. Mary Kate is the Charolais representative for the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association.

Mary Kate is a freshman at Clear Creek Amana High School. She participates in Basketball, Track and is a member of the Student Council. Mary Kate is a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Cosgrove where she is a lector and altar server. Mary Kate is a member of the Cosgrove Hustlers 4-H Club and was a member on the Reserve Champion Livestock Judging Team.

Mary Kate’s mentors in the Charolais breed are her parents; Judy Frank from Sigourney, Iowa; and the Steve Bertsche family from Flanagan Illinois. With their support Mary Kate has enjoyed her years as a member of the Charolais Breed and will continue to be an active member and mentor.
